Friday's 5km noon in the sun fundraiser walk and run for the Wounded EOD Warrior Foundation brought together 58 community "sporters" onto the new snow-lined fitness trail. They included parents, youth, the USAF EOD bomb truck, a blimpy suited USAF Explosive Ordnance Disposal tech to meet finishers, 716th EOD soldiers, and a "rucking crew" from the National Guard Long Range Surveillance Unit. The common goal:
raise money and link in partnership with Kandahar's 10 Km "Ruck and Run" held Sunday in Afghanistan. Organizers of both events are Eagle River friends and locals - MAJ Dean Eisberg in Kandahar and Chris
Tomsen- who volunteers for the U.S. Army Ranger Association, often with outdoor activities. A small informal group of Elmendorf friends met at Eagle Glen and skied cross-country in partnership with the event. $818 was raised here for www.woundedeodwarrior.org, which supports Army, Navy, Air Force and Marine EOD wounded warriors and families.
